Learn about the history of railroading and how the steam locomotive, and the people who worked to make it happen, created the America we know today at the Steamtown National Historic Site as part of this group motorcoach vacation package.  Occupying 40 acres in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania at the site of the former Scranton yards of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&W), the Steamtown National Historic Site originated with the collection of standard-gauge steam locomotives and freight and passenger cars that New England seafood processor F. Nelson Blount assembled in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1984, over a decade after the death of Blount, the Steamtown Foundation for the Preservation of Steam and Railroad Americana, Inc. moved the collection to Scranton’s DL&W. Not long after, the U.S. National Park Service formed the Steamtown National Historic Site with Blount’s collection at its center.
