Celebrate the life and career of President Jimmy Carter at the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum as part of this group bus trip. Located on a beautifully landscaped 35 acre park with two small lakes and several gardens, the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, Georgia is part of the Carter Presidential Center and the only Presidential Library in the southeast. Run by the National Archives and Records Administration, today the newly renovated Library and Museum not only provides information and educational materials about the life, career and presidency of Jimmy Carter, but also promotes a better understanding of the U.S. Presidency, American history and important issues of public policy  during Jimmy Carter’s term in office.

 

Visiting the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum

Jimmy Carter Presidential Library

The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library archives provide the public access to papers, records and historical materials of President Carter and his White House Staff. Archives in the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library include an estimated 27 million pages of Jimmy Carter’s White House material and papers of administration associates including documents, memoranda, and correspondence. In addition to the Library’s papers, its holdings include approximately 500,000 photographs and hundreds of hours of audio and video footage.

Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum

Take a firsthand look at the modern American Presidency in the Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum brought to life through objects, documents, photographs and audio and video footage. The Museum’s main exhibition chronicles significant events throughout Jimmy Carter’s life and political career. It includes displays on Carter’s childhood in the Plains, his Georgia political career, the 1976 presidential campaign, various issues of the Presidency, the role of the first lady and President Carter’s Noble Peace Prize. Museum highlights include Head of State Gifts, the Crown of St. Stephen and an exact replica of the Oval Office during the Carter Administration.

Head of State Gifts

Discover the various gifts that Jimmy Carter received from foreign leaders worldwide like the luxurious rug from the Shah. During his administration, President Carter requested that state governors contribute items significant to their state’s culture. What Jimmy Carter received in exchange gave way to the impressive Gifts From Heads of State exhibit.

The Crown of St. Stephen

Learn about the rich history of the Crown of St. Stephen, the medieval crown that for centuries was the symbol of Hungarian Kingship and today remains a powerful symbol of the Hungarian nation in the Crown of St. Stephen exhibit. A special reproduction of the Crown of St. Stephen presented to Jimmy Carter by the President of the Republic of Hungary during a ceremony on March 18, 1998 is the highlight of the display.

The Oval Office

The Oval Office has been regarded by presidents as both a ceremonial room and working office since 1934. Step into the Library and Museum’s full-scale replica of the Oval Office, designed to replicate the Oval Office as it existed during Jimmy Carter’s term in the White House.
