For the ultimate Historic Route 66 experience, visit the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum as part of this group bus tour.  Located in Clinton, Oklahoma, the Route 66 Museum was operated as the Museum of the Western Trails for almost 30 years until a change in management in 1995 replaced the Museum of the Western Trails with the Route 66 Museum, chronicling the history of the most famous road in the United States Highway System and quite possibly the most famous and storied highway in the world.

Visiting Route 66 Museum

During your visit to Oklahoma’s Route 66 Museum, take a spirited tour of pure Americana as historian and acclaimed author Michael Wallis narrates the rise and fall of Route 66, tracing the deep social and cultural changes of a nation along the way.  The Museum also features special exhibits throughout the year that focus on the Route 66 experience.

Route 66 Museum Galleries

Journey through the history of the nation’s most reverent highway in the Route 66 Museum galleries, adorned with colorful postcards and photographs reminiscent of the Mother Road. Galleries are arranged by decade and feature music and video clips that set the scene of the time. As you make your way through the Museum’s galleries you will encounter the iconic ideas, images and myths of the Mother Road. Learn about the dreams and labor needed to make the road a reality. Experience the dust bowl that sent thousands streaming along the road, away from drought and despair towards the “land of promise.” The sweet and romantic melodies of the Big Band Era and Route 66’s 1950’s diner illustrate the good times of the post-war era while remaining exhibits examine Historic Route 66 as the most famous highway of the present day.

Valentine Diner

Route 66 Museum’s fully restored Valentine Diner’s history dates back to the late 1940s when the Valentine Manufacturing Company, started by Arthur and Ella Valentine, made prefabricated diners complete with grill, counter and stools.  Step into a window in time when Valentine Diners could be found along Historic Route 66 as you touch the counter, or sit in one of the booths of Route 66 Museum’s Valentine Diner.

Shopping in the Gift Shop

Be sure to stop by the Route 66 Museum Gift Shop. Whether you are looking for something to remember your time at the Museum, or a special gift for a loved one, the Route 66 Museum Gift Shop is home to a number of items related to Historic Route 66 including apparel, books, curios, DVDs and CDs, games and puzzles, mugs, signs and licence plates, and home décor.
